Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant within the body. Vitamin E ensures polyunsaturated greasy acids (which are components of the cellular layer) and other oxygen-sensitive substances such as vitamin A & vitamin C from oxidation. In untimely neonates, crabbiness, edema, thrombosis, and hemolytic frailty may be caused due to vitamin E insufficiency.  Creatinuria, ceroid statement, muscle shortcoming, diminished erythrocyte survival, or expanded in vitro hemolysis by oxidizing operators have been distinguished in grown-ups and children with moo serum tocopherol concentrations.

Dosage & Administration

Betterment of cardiovascular health: 400 IU-800 IU per day
Deficiency syndrome in adults: 200 IU-400 IU per day
Deficiency syndrome in children: 200 IU per day
Thalassemia: 800 IU per day
Sickle-cell anemia: 400 IU per day
Betterment of skin & hair: 200 IU-400 IU per day (Topical use is also established for beautification)
Chronic cold in adults: 200 IU per day


Vitamin E may impair vitamin A absorption and function, as well as potentiate the effects of Warfarin.


There are no known contraindications.

Side Effects

Overdosage (>1 gm) has been linked to hypertension, fatigue, diarrhea, and myopathy, among other minor side effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation

When taken in the recommended doses, vitamin E is safe during pregnancy and lactation. Higher doses have not been proven..

Precautions & Warnings

In some patients, such as those taking estrogens, it may increase the risk of thrombosis.
