Sodium Alginate + Potassium Bicarbonate

Indications

This medication is used to treat symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux, such as acid regurgitation, heartburn, and indigestion (all of which are connected to reflux), such as after meals or during pregnancy, or in patients with symptoms of reflux esophagitis.

Pharmacology

When this preparation comes into touch with stomach acid, it forms a raft (thick layer) on top of the stomach contents. The raft functions as a physical barrier, keeping all of the stomach contents in the stomach where they belong, rather than allowing them to leak back up into the esophagus, where they cause pain.

Dosage & Administration

Daily 4 times, after meals & before bedtime.
Tablet-

• Adult and child over 12 years: 1-2 tablets.
• Child 6-12 years: 1 tablet.

Suspension-

• Adult and child over 12 years: 5-10 ml.
• Child 2-12 years: 2.5-5 ml.

This preparation is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

Interaction

If you’re taking other medications at the same time or have recently ended another drug therapy, let your doctor know so that drug interactions don’t cause harm or ineffectiveness.

Contraindications

Patients who have a known allergy to sodium alginate or potassium bicarbonate should avoid them.

Side Effect

In addition to the drug’s intended benefit, certain adverse effects such as nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or headache may occur. In these instances, seek medical advice. A sense of swelling may develop if a too large dose has been consumed. In this scenario, it is best to seek medical advice.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnant and nursing women can use this supplement.

Precautions & Warnings

In individuals with renal impairment and congestive heart failure, this medication should be used with care.
