Indications of Phenadryl 100 ml

PHENADRYL is indicated in all histaminic diseases such as perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria, angio-edema, allergic reactions to blood and plasma, motion sickness and drug induced parkinsonism. It is also indicated in cough.

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine with sedative and anticholinergic properties. It competes with histamine for H1-receptor sites on GI, blood vascular, and respiratory tract effector cells.


Dosage & Administration


  • Most allergic conditions: 25-50 mg three times a day with a further 50 mg at night.


  • 1 to 5 years of age: 5 mg i.e., 2.5 ml of elixir 4 times a day
  • More than 6 years of age: 10 mg i.e. 5 ml of elixir 4 times a day


Interaction of Phenadryl 100 ml

The antituberculous drug para-aminosalicyclic acid (PAS) is dramatically reduced by diphenhydramine treatment in the gastrointestinal system. Diphenhydramine’s sedative effect may be amplified by CNS depressants. Diphenhydramine’s anticholinergic adverse effects may be amplified by anticholinergic medications.



Diphenhydramine is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to it.


Side Effects of Phenadryl 100 ml

Side effects include sedation, dizziness, tinnitus, fatigue, ataxia, blurred vision, diplopia, euphoria, and upper abdominal discomfort.


Pregnancy & Lactation

Category B: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on pregnant women using diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Therefore, diphenhydramine hydrochloride should be used during pregnancy only if it is clearly needed. According to reports, diphenhydramine hydrochloride can be excreted in human milk, so it is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers to use diphenhydramine hydrochloride.


Precautions & Warnings

Diphenhydramine should be used with caution in lactating mothers, pregnant women, asthma and with anticholinergic drugs.
