Description

Indications of Oralon 100 ml

Chlorhexidine Gluconate Mouthwash is an antibacterial mouthwash that prevents tooth plaque from forming. It is prescribed to help with the treatment and prevention of gingivitis, as well as the maintenance of oral hygiene, especially in instances where teeth brushing is ineffective (e.g. following oral surgery, in mentally or physically handicapped patients). It can also be used to enhance gingival repair after periodontal surgery or treatment.

Pharmaceutical Name of Oralon 100 ml

ACI Limited

Pharmacology

Chlorhexidine is a highly effective cationic chemoprophylactic drug that works against both gm+ve and gm-ve bacteria. Depending on the concentration, it is both bacteriostatic and bactericidal. The bactericidal action is owing to the cationic’s binding to negatively charged bacterial cell walls and extra microbial complexes, which is attained at high concentrations. Low amounts produce a bacteriostatic action, altering bacterial cell osmotic balance and causing potassium and phosphorus leakage.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: Rinse the mouth thoroughly with 10 ml twice daily for about one minute. Prior to therapy, the patient should be instructed to rinse his or her mouth for one minute. Anionic agents, which are commonly found in traditional dentifrices, are incompatible with chlorhexidine gluconate. These should be used before Chlorhexidine Gluconate (rinsing the mouth between applications) or at a different time of day than Chlorhexidine Gluconate.

A duration of around one month is recommended for the treatment of gingivitis, while some variance in response is to be expected. Treatment should be continued for 48 hours following clinical remission in the event of aphthous ulcers and oral candidal infections. Dentures should be cleaned and immersed in Chlorhexidine Gluconate mouthwash for fifteen minutes twice daily to cure dental stomatitis.

Children and the Elderly: Unless the dentist or physician recommends otherwise, the standard adult dose is appropriate for elderly patients and children aged 12 and up. Children under the age of 12 should not use the product unless a healthcare expert advises them to. External (oral) administration is the most common route of administration.
