Indications of Neofloxin-D Eye Drop

Eye: This combined eye drop is used to treat steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular diseases in which bacterial infections or the danger of bacterial infections are present. When there is a high risk of infection or an anticipation that potentially harmful numbers of bacteria would be present in the eye, a combination therapy including an anti-infective component is recommended. The combination can also be utilized to treat post-operative inflammation as well as any other infection-related ocular inflammation.

It is used to treat ear infections that are accompanied by inflammation, such as otitis externa, otitis media, and chronic suppurative otitis media, among other things.

Pharmacology of Neofloxin-D Eye Drop

The hormone dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties are beneficial. It is applied topically to the anterior region of the eye to treat inflammatory disorders. It inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2, which lowers prostaglandin generation. Dexamethasone also prevents neutrophils from chemotactically infiltrating the inflammatory region.

Ciprofloxacin has the highest antibacterial activity of all quinolones in vitro against a wide spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Ciprofloxacin’s bactericidal effect is due to interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is required for bacterial DNA synthesis.

Dosage & Administration of Neofloxin-D Eye Drop

For Eye: 1 drop to be instilled into conjunctival sac(s) every four to six hours. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to 1 drop every two hours.

For Ear:

Acute otitis media in pediatric patients with typanastomy tube: 4 drops instilled into the affected ear 2 times daily for 7 days.

Acute otitis externa: 4 drops instilled into the affected ear 2 times daily for 7 days.

Frequency should be decreased gradually or warranted in clinical signs. Care should be taken not to discontinue therapy prematurely.

Interaction of Neofloxin-D Eye Drop

With ophthalmic Ciprofloxacin and Dexamethasone, no specific medication interaction studies have been undertaken. However, systemic administration of some quinolones has been linked to transient elevations in serum creatinine in patients receiving cyclosporin concurrently and has been shown to elevate plasma concentrations of theophylline, interfere with caffeine metabolism, enhance the effects of the oral anticoagulant warfarin and its derivatives, and have been linked to transient elevations in serum creatinine in patients receiving cyclosporin concurrently.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the product’s ingredients. Mycosis, glaucoma, newborn newborns, and fungal infections of the ocular or auricular structures are all examples of viral diseases.

Side Effects of Neofloxin-D Eye Drop

Frequently reported adverse reactions are transient ocular burning or discomfort. Other reported reactions include stinging, redness, itching, photophobia, conjunctivitis/ keratitis, Periocular/ facial edema, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and eye pain. Elevation of IOP with development of glaucoma, and delayed wound healing may rarely occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use during pregnancy: Only if the possible benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus should this be used during pregnancy.

Use in lactation: It’s unclear whether topical corticosteroids would result in enough systemic absorption to create detectable levels in human milk. It’s also unclear whether ciprofloxacin is excreted in human milk after topical use. Because many medicines are excreted in human milk, caution should be used when giving the combination to a nursing mother.
