Indapamide

Indications

The drug indapamide is used to treat essential hypertension. Although its diuretic impact is lessened, it is useful in treating hypertension in patients with renal function impairment. Indapamide is also used to address salt and fluid retention in people who have congestive heart failure.

Pharmacology

Indapamide is an antihypertensive diuretic. It appears to produce vasodilation by preventing calcium and other ions (sodium, potassium) from passing through membranes. It has an extrarenal antihypertensive effect that reduces vascular hyperreactivity as well as total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.

Dosage & Administration

One tablet daily preferably in the morning. In more sever case Indapamide can be combine with other categories of anti-hypertensive agent. The safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

Interaction

Other antihypertensive drugs: Indapamide can enhance or intensify the effects of other antihypertensive medications.

Norepinephrine: Indapamide, like thiazides, may reduce norepinephrine arterial response.

Diuretics should not be used in conjunction with lithium because they impair renal clearance and increase the risk of lithium toxicity.

Contraindications

This medication should not be used in the following situations:

• Sulfonamide hypersensitivity
• Renal failure that is severe
• Hepatic encephalopathy, sometimes known as hepatic encephalopathy, or severe hepatic failure, is a condition in which the

Side Effects

Side effects of Indapamide include headache, anorexia, gastric irritation,nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women and so Indapamide is not recommended. Mothers taking Indapamide should not breast feed.

Precautions & Warnings

Potassium and uric acid serum levels should be monitored, especially in people who are predisposed to or sensitive to hypokalemia, as well as individuals with gout. Patients having a history of sulfonamide derivative allergy should be continuously monitored, despite the fact that no allergic symptoms were documented during clinical trials.
