Herbal cough syrup [Adhatoda Vasica]

Indications

The phlegm in this herbal cough medication is liquefied. It helps to relieve throat inflammation. It aids in the relief of hoarseness. It treats all forms of coughs, including dry, irritated, allergy, and smokers’ coughs.

Pharmacology

• Cough and bronchial spasms are relieved by Adhatoda vasica (Basok). Mucous is liquefied by it.
• Cold allergies and asthma are relieved with Piper longum (Pipul).
• Glycyrrhiza glabra (Jashthi Modhu): Helps to relieve throat inflammation. It strengthens the immune system. It’s anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and demulcent.
• Piper nigrum (Marich) is anti-inflammatory, fungistatic, and bacteriostatic.
• Antihistaminic Zingiber officinale (Shunthi). In the case of a typical cold, it is really effective.
• Haritaki (Terminalia chebula): It eliminates toxins from the body. It has a positive impact on all body tissues.
• Vitis venifera (Kismiss): Cough reliever and tonic.
• Bacha (Acorus calamus): For bronchial catarrh and intermittent fever.
• It is antiseptic and disinfectant. Saussurea lappa (Kur): It is antiseptic and disinfectant. It is quite beneficial in the treatment of bronchial asthma.
• Syzygium aromaticum (Labango): Aids in the treatment of coughs and other respiratory ailments. It keeps foul breath at bay.
• Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Darchini): It is antibacterial and antifungal, and its relaxing function soothes cough.
• Elettaria cardamomum (Elachi) is a fragrant spice with antibacterial properties.
• Tejpata (Cinnamomum tamala) is a tonic and an appetizer agent.

Dosage & Administration

Children under 12 years: 1-2 teaspoonful (5-10 ml) 2-3 times a day. ‘

Adult: 3 teaspoonful (15 ml) 2-3 times a day.

Some warm water may be added for better results.

Contraindications

On contraindication, there is no report available. Patients who are hypersensitive to any of the components may experience this.

Side Effects

This syrup has been proved to be safe. It’s favorably received. Vomiting is a possibility with high-dose diarrhea.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There hasn’t been any research done on the safety of this syrup during pregnancy. As a result, it should be avoided during pregnancy.
