Description
Generic
Lansoprazole + Amoxicillin + Clarithromycin
Indications
This medication is used to treat H. pylori infections in active chronic gastric, duodenal, and gastric ulcers.
Pharmacology
- Lansoprazole is a proton-pump inhibitor that reduces the production of gastric acids in the stomach.
- The antibiotic amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin family of antibiotics. It works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell walls. lt prevents cross-linking between linear peptidoglycan polymer chains, which are a significant component of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria’s cell walls.
- Clarithromycin belongs to the macrolide antibiotic family.
- By interfering with bacteria’s protein production, it inhibits them from developing. It binds to the bacterial ribosome component 50S and hence prevents peptide translation.
Dosage & Administration
One strip twice daily for 7-14 days or as per the physician’s advice.
Interaction
Lansoprazole is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, particularly by the isozymes CYP3A and CYP2C19. Lansoprazole does not exhibit clinically significant interactions with other medications metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, such as warfarin, antipyrine, indomethacin, ibuprofen, phenytoin, propranolol, prednisolone, diazepam, clarithromycin, or terfenadine, according to studies in healthy people.
Clarithromycin usage in theophylline-treated individuals has been linked to an increase in blood theophylline concentrations.
Contraindications
This is not recommended for people who have a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Side Effect
- The following is a list of adverse events that were reported as potentially or probably linked to treatment (>3% ) in clinical studies when all three components of this medication were given at the same time.
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, black stools, dry mouth, glossitis, oral moniliasis, stomatitis, tongue discolouration are symptoms of the digestive system.
- Myalgia is a condition that affects the musculoskeletal system.
- Confusion, headaches, and dizziness are symptoms of the nervous system.
- Reactions to the skin
- Vaginal moniliasis, vaginitis, urogenital system
Pregnancy & Lactation
In pregnant women, there were no appropriate and well-controlled trials. Only if the possible benefit outweighs the danger to the mother should this be taken during pregnancy. Amoxicillin is excreted in extremely tiny levels in human milk. Because there is a risk of significant side effects in breastfeeding babies. Taking into consideration the relevance of the therapy to the mother, a choice should be taken whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the medication therapy.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients using Amoxicillin have experienced serious and often deadly hypersensitivity (anaphylactoid) responses. Individuals with a history of penicillin hypersensitivity are more likely to experience these responses. Clarithromycin should only be administered in pregnant women if no other treatment options are available.
