Description
Generic
Aspirin
Indications
Prophylaxis against arterial occlusive events: myocardial infarction, myocardial re-infarction, after bypass surgery, acute ischemic stroke/TIA are all indications for aspirin.
Headache, muscle discomfort, dysmenorrhoea, and toothache are examples of mild to moderate pain. Osteoarthritis is a chronic illness characterized by pain and inflammation.
Cold fever and influenza are antipyretics.
Pharmacology
Ecosprin prevents thrombus development on the arterial side of the circulation by lowering platelet aggregation, where thrombi are generated by platelet aggregation and anticoagulants have minimal impact. For headaches, transitory musculoskeletal pain, and dysmenorrhoea, aspirin is the analgesic of choice. It may be beneficial since it contains anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. Aspirin with an enteric coating lowers gastrointestinal ulcers and intestinal disruption.
Dosage & Administration
Aspirin 300 mg 1-3 pills 6 hourly, with a maximum daily dose of 4 gm, for pain, inflammatory illnesses, and as an antipyretic.
If you suspect you have the acute coronary syndrome, take 150-300 mg right away unless you have a clear contraindication.
After a myocardial infarction, take 150 mg of aspirin every day for one month. Following that, long-term aspirin administration at a dose of 75 mg per day is advised.
Acute ischemic stroke/Transient ischaemic stroke (TIA): 150 mg-300 mg daily at first, then 75 mg daily after that.
After bypass surgery, take 75-300 mg daily for the first 6 hours after the procedure.
Interaction
Anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemic medications, phenytoin, and sodium valproate may be enhanced by salicylates. They reduce the uricosuric action of probenecid and may make sulphonamides more toxic. Insensitive individuals may also cause bronchospasm or asthma episodes.
Contraindications
Ecosprin is not recommended for children under the age of 12 (Reye’s syndrome), women who are breastfeeding, or those who have an active peptic ulcer. It’s also not recommended for bleeding caused by hemophilia, cerebral hemorrhage, or other ulcers.
Side Effects
Ecosprin 75 has moderate side effects such as nausea, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal ulcers, and bronchospasm when taken as directed.
Pregnancy & Lactation
It’s especially crucial not to take aspirin during the last three months of pregnancy unless your doctor specifically advises you to since it can harm the unborn child or cause complications during birth. Aspirin can be found in breast milk. As a result, it should be given with caution to lactating women.
Precautions & Warnings
In asthmatics, people with uncontrolled blood pressure, and pregnant women, it should be used with caution. Patients with a nasal polyp or a nasal allergy should be treated with caution.
