Description

Indications of Easium 5mg Tablet

Easium 5mg Tablet is used to treat mild to moderate anxiety, excitement, agitation, fear, aggression, and other symptoms for a brief period of time. Anxiety reactions triggered by stressful situations, anxiety states with somatic manifestations, acute alcohol withdrawal, status epilepticus, premedication for surgical operations, febrile convulsions, and sleeplessness in hospitalized patients are all examples of anxiety reactions.

Pharmacology of Easium 5mg Tablet

Diazepam binds to a specific location on the GABA receptor and enhances the action of GABA, which opens chloride ion channels in cells.

After oral treatment, diazepam is swiftly and completely absorbed. Within 15-90 minutes, the plasma concentration reaches its peak. The plasma half-life is 30 hours on average. Protein binding in plasma is 98-99 percent. Only traces of the unaltered drug are eliminated in urine after diazepam is metabolized in the liver. Only a small percentage of the metabolites are expelled in the gut by the bile and removed with the feces. Diazepam is significantly absorbed after rectal administration in suppository form, with peak concentration reaching within 1.5-2 hours.

Interaction

It’s not a good idea to take it with alcohol at the same time. Concomitant use of neuroleptics (antipsychotics), hypnotics, sedative antihistamines, and CNS depressants, such as general anesthetics, narcotic analgesics, or antidepressants, may exacerbate sedation. Concomitant phenobarbitone administration increases diazepam clearance, while cimetidine administration decreases it. Diazepam metabolism is inhibited by omeprazole and isoniazid.

Contraindications

Diazepam should not be used if you have myasthenia gravis, pulmonary insufficiency, respiratory depression, or a benzodiazepine allergy.

Side effects

Diazepam is a medication that is generally well tolerated. At higher doses, somnolence, dizziness, lightheadedness, disorientation, and ataxia are possible side effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Diazepam and its active metabolites pass via the placenta and into breast milk. As a result, it should be avoided during pregnancy and nursing if at all possible. Pregnancy category D according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Precautions & Warnings

Long-term use and sudden discontinuation should be avoided. In patients with respiratory disease, muscle weakness, a history of drug or alcohol misuse, or hepatic or renal impairment, diazepam should be used with caution.
