Description
Indications of Clindax 300 Capsule
Clindamycin has been found to be helpful in treating the following illnesses caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria or susceptible strains of gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococci, Staphylococci, and Pneumococci; Upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, and bronchitis are all examples of upper respiratory infections. Infections affecting the skin and soft tissues Infections of the bones and joints, as well as infections of the pelvis Infections of the abdomen, Septicemia, and endocarditis, as well as dental illnesses When used with quinine or amodiaquine, as an alternate medication for treatment of multi-drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum infection.
Pharmacology of Clindax 300 Capsule
Clindamycin was readily absorbed following oral administration in 24 normal adult volunteers, according to serum level tests using a 150 mg oral dosage of clindamycin hydrochloride. Serum levels averaged 1.51 mcg/mL at 3 hours and 0.70 mcg/mL at 6 hours, with a peak serum level of 2.50 mcg/mL attained in 45 minutes. The absorption of an oral dosage is nearly complete (90 percent), and the addition of food has no discernible effect on blood concentrations; serum levels have been consistent and predictable from person to person and dose to dose. Serum level investigations after several CLEOCIN HCl dosages for up to 14 days reveal no indication of drug buildup or altered metabolism. Healthy volunteers tolerated dosages of up to 2 grams of clindamycin per day for 14 days, with the exception that the incidence of gastrointestinal adverse effects increases with increasing doses.
Dosage & Administration of Clindax 300 Capsule
Dosage of Clindamycin Capsule:
- Serious Infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours.
- More severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours.
To avoid the possibility of oesophageal irritation, Clindacin capsules should be taken with a full glass of water.
Several researches has found that Clindamycin 300 mg capsule provides plasma concentration over MIC90 for more than 12 hours. This finding supports the twice-daily dosing of Clindacin 300 mg capsule, particularly in SSTIs & RTIs. However, in case of bone & joint infections, diabetic foot infections dose of Clindamycin should be 300 mg capsule 3-4 times daily.
Dosage of Clindamycin Powder for oral solution:
- Serious infections: 8-12 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.
- Severe infections: 13-16 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.
- More severe infections: 17-25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.
In pediatric patients weighing 10 kg or less, 1/2 teaspoon (37.5 mg) three times a day should be considered the minimum recommended dose.
Dosage of Clindamycin IV/IM Injection:
Adults-
- Serious infections due to aerobic gram-positive cocci and the more susceptible anaerobes: 600-1200 mg/day in 2- 4 equal doses.
- More severe infections: 1200-2700 mg/day in 2-4 equal doses.
- For more serious infections: these doses may have to be increased. In life-threatening situations due to either aerobes or anaerobes, these doses may be increased.
- Doses of as much as 4800 mg daily have been given intravenously to adults. Single intramuscular injections of greater than 600 mg are not recommended.
Neonates (less than 1 month): 15 to 20 mg/kg/day in 3 to 4 equal doses. The lower effective dosage may be adequate for small premature.
Pediatric patients (1 month of age to 16 years):
- 20 to 40 mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 equal doses. The higher doses would be used for more severe infections.
- Parenteral therapy may be changed to Capsules (clindamycin hydrochloride) when the condition warrants and at the discretion of the physician.
- In cases of (3-hemolytic streptococcal infections, treatment should be continued for at least 10 days.
Interaction of Clindax 300 Capsule
Clindamycin improves the efficacy of other neuromuscular-blocking drugs. As a result, it should be used with caution in patients who are being treated with such drugs. Clindamycin and erythromycin have been shown to be antagonistic in vitro. Because of the potential for clinical significance, these two medicines should not be used at the same time.
Contraindications
Previous sensitivity to clindamycin, lincomycin or to any component of the formulation.
Side Effects of Clindax 300 Capsule
Clindamycin has been associated with the following side effects: stomach discomfort, oesophagitis and oesophageal ulcer, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, skin rashes, and urticaria.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category B Pregnancy. Clindamycin passes the human placenta. Amniotic fluid concentrations were roughly 30% of maternal amounts after several dosages. Clindamycin should only be taken during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Clindamycin has been found in human breast milk. As a result, unless absolutely necessary, it is not suggested for breastfeeding moms.
Precautions & Warnings
Clindamycin should be used with caution in those who have a history of gastrointestinal illness, especially colitis.
