Description
Indications of Cipro-D 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution
Eye: This combined eye drop is used to treat steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular diseases in which bacterial infections or the danger of bacterial infections are present. When there is a high risk of infection or anticipation that potentially hazardous quantities of bacteria would be present in the eye, a combination medication including an anti-infective component is recommended. The combination can also be utilized to treat post-operative inflammation as well as any other infection-related ocular inflammation.
It’s used to treat ear infections that are accompanied by inflammation, such as otitis externa, otitis media, and chronic suppurative otitis media. The combination can also be used to treat ear irritation after surgery.
Pharmacology of Cipro-D 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution
The glucocorticoid dexamethasone is. It works as an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergen. It’s used topically to the eye’s anterior region to treat inflammatory disorders. By inhibiting the enzyme phospholipase A2, it lowers prostaglandin production. Dexamethasone also prevents neutrophils from chemotactically infiltrating the inflammatory area.
Ciprofloxacin has the highest antibacterial activity of all quinolones in vitro against a wide spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Ciprofloxacin’s bactericidal effect is due to interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is required for bacterial DNA synthesis.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy: Only if the possible benefit outweighs the danger to the fetus should this be used during pregnancy.
Use in lactation: It’s unclear if topical corticosteroids would result in enough systemic absorption to generate measurable amounts in human milk. It’s also unclear if ciprofloxacin is excreted in human milk after topical use. Because many medications are excreted in human milk, care should be used when giving the combination to a nursing mother.
