Description
Indications of Cardizem 30
Diltiazem Hydrochloride film coated tablet is used to prevent and treat chronic stable (classical) and vasopastic angina pectoris, as well as to treat hypertension alone or in combination. Diltiazem is also effective in myocardial infarction, coronary artery spasm, arrhythmias, Raynaud’s phenomenon, oesophageal motility disorder, and migraine.
Pharmaceutical Name of Cardizem 30
Pharmacology
Diltiazem is a calcium-channel blocker that also acts as a peripheral and coronary vasodilator. It lowers blood pressure and affects cardiac conduction in some ways. Diltiazem prevents calcium ions from flowing through the channels of active cell membranes.
Dosage & Administration
Diltiazem Hydrochloride film coated tablet is usually taken three times a day at a dose of 60 mg. The patient’s response, however, may vary, and dosage requirements may vary significantly between patients. The divided dose may be increased to 180-300 mg/day if necessary. Start with 30 mg four times daily and gradually increase over one to two days until the desired response is achieved.
Interaction of Cardizem 30
Digoxin, Propranolol, Cyclosporin, Theophylline, Cimetidine, Lithium, and Carbamazepine are some of the most commonly prescribed medications.
Contraindications
Patients with severe bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, pregnancy, or second or third degree AV block should not take diltiazem.
Side Effects of Cardizem 30
Headache, ankle oedema, hypertension, dizziness, flushing, rashes (toxic erythema), nausea, and Gl disturbances are all possible side effects of Diltiazem. Hepatitis and transient elevations in liver enzyme values have been reported. Diltiazem can impair cardiac conduction, resulting in AV block, bradycardia, and, in rare cases, asystole or sinus arrest.
Pregnancy & Lactation
In patients with milder AV block or bradycardia, as well as those with impaired left ventricular function, diltiazem should be used with caution. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should exercise caution.
Precautions & Warnings
When treating elderly patients, caution should be exercised, and the initial dosage should be reduced. Such patients are particularly vulnerable to extrapyramidal and hypotensive effects. Patients with heart disease or arrhythmias should be treated with caution as well. Patients with angina pectoris should be cautious.
Therapeutic Class
Calcium channel blockers are drugs that block calcium channels in the body.
Storage Conditions
Keep the temperature below 30°C and away from light and moisture. Keep out of children’s reach.
