Indications of Betavate-N Cream
This cream is usually used to treat superficial infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. It can also be used for the regeneration of new skin in burns, wounds and ulcers, otitis externa, postoperative infections, neurodermatitis, and eczema. It can be used as an adjunct to systemic steroid therapy for special types of pyoderma.
Pharmacolgy of Betavate-N Cream
Betamethasone is an active topical corticosteroid that can produce a rapid response in inflammatory skin diseases and cure psoriasis-type skin diseases. Neomycin sulfate is a broad-spectrum topical bactericidal aminoglycoside drug, which is effective against various types of Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens such as Proteus and Staphylococcus aureus. This formulation has the ability to effectively penetrate and evenly distribute, making it very effective in areas with hairy and abrasions. This preparation is very effective in treating wet skin ulcers.
Dosage & Administration of Betavate-N Cream
Use in adults: This preparation should be applied to the affected parts of the skin as a thin layer for 3 to 4 times daily. In chronic conditions, withdrawal of treatment is carried out by decreasing the frequency of application until the cream is applied as infrequently as once a week. Or as directed by the physician.
Use in children: Do not use it on children under 1 year of age. A course of treatment for a child should not normally last more than 5 days unless otherwise stated by your physician.
Interaction of Betavate-N Cream
No significant drug interactions have been reported for betamethasone valerate BP and neomycin sulfate cream/ointment BP.
Contraindications
The preparation is contraindicated in patients allergic to any of its ingredients. It should not be used to treat otitis externa when the tympanic membrane is perforated. Skin damage caused by viral and fungal infections is prohibited.
Side Effects of Betavate-N Cream
This preparation is well tolerated. But long-term and high doses can cause Cushing’s syndrome, acne, thinning, and dilation of blood vessels, especially when using occlusive dressings.
Pregnancy & Lactation
During pregnancy, this product should be used sparingly.
Precautions & Warnings
Long-term continuous topical treatment of this preparation, which can produce many drug-resistant microorganisms, should be avoided. Therefore, the exact dosage of the preparation should only be applied to the infected area.
